We will be traveling to the Flathead Reservation in Montana, just an hour and a half north of Missoula, June 1-7.
Our group includes three buddy pairs (three Vanderbilt students and three best buddies, adults with intellectual disabilities) and Dr. Elisabeth Dykens, a professor at Vanderbilt and the director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for research on developmental disabilities.
Buddy Pairs: Steph and Josh, Jessi and Christy, Travis and Adrian.
We are staying at a bed and breakfast on the reservation.
Some of the things we will be doing:
- Cleaning up tribal campgrounds around Flathead lake
- Visiting Glacier Mountain National Park
- Meeting with the Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation Services
- Touring the tribal college: Salish Kootenai College
- Attending a Pow Pow on Saturday evening
- Planting native plants in gardens at the Salish-Kootenai People's Center
- and MUCH more!!
